This proposal for the Tartu Cultural Center in Tartu, Estonia calls for a new multi-building center that will facilliate cooperation between cultural fields providing opportunities for cultural exchange and innovation. It consists of a mixed program that includes: library, cinema, museum, an ampitheater, auditoriums, and dining space. The program is roughly 200,000 sqft.

This project features thin cantilevering concrete slabs supported by large highway- like concrete columns. An orthogonal language is maintained throughout the site. Geometrically, the interior of the building is more dense than the exterior with the use of mezzanines and atriums, allowing for changes in elevation within and delegating intimacy or transparency to the spaces. In effort to create a buffer between the exterior and interior environments, a sense of lightness is introduced through the use of polycarbonate clad timber to contrast the heavy concrete block elements.
