Situated on a parcel in the West Adams neighborhood of Los Angeles, a singular monolithic mass which filled a 100’ x 75’ parcel was shifted along the front and back with a punched out courtyard in the center allowing for the connection and extension of the sidewalk. Circulation was placed
diagonally contrasting the city grid while all 13 apartment units keep an orthogonal orientation. All 13 units follow the townhouse model and are accessible from the ground level through the
central courtyard. In effort to maintain the monolithic nature of the massing, a muxarabi wood screen was clad onto the facade of the concrete structure. All operations contributed to the blurring of boundaries between the site and neighborhood, providing both privacy and community engagement.
